BIO

Steve's fascination with electronic music all started in the 1980's with the likes of Kraftwerk, Devo, and Brian Eno. This fascination guided him through various genres and waves of electronic music and eventually to artists like Underworld and the Chemical Brothers. Eventually, he found himself in San Francisco in the midst of the burgeoning dance music and DJ culture in the late 1990's where his passion for dance music sprouted and flourished.

Steve started going to a small house music club called Liquid and eventually to the Wednesday happy hour hot spot called Qoöl that's hosted by San Francisco dance music artists, knob twiddlers, and DJs Jondi and Spesh. Steve immersed himself in San Francisco's rich and diverse dance scene, frequently attending underground and club parties. Eventually he succumbed to the lure of the DJ and began concentrating more on the DJs' mixing skills, music selection, and programming rather than dancing. Steve soon launched into his own foray into spinning, mixing, and programming. After exploring various styles he settled into driving, tribal, progressive house. When the energy of the progressive house began to mellow significantly, he found new and vibrant energy in the breakbeat that was coming out of London. Out of breakbeat evolved "tech-funk," an energetic and bass-heavy style that integrates elements from breakbeat, electro, and house. This lead to Steve's current love of electro-tech-funk-breaks-house music.

Steve began DJing in 2000 and he eventually began playing his energetic sets in San Francisco's smallest DJ bars and it's biggest clubs. During that time, he warmed the decks for the likes of The Scumfrog, Sandra Collins, Jerry Bonham, Spesh, DJ Hyper, and DJ Friendly.

Beginning in 2005, Steve took a haitus from DJing to begin graduate school. He recently decided to return to DJing and programmed and recorded his latest mixes Bassanova and Bassanova Breaks to capture his current sound. It's a sound that is dynamic and full of energy. At the heart of the music are strong, gritty, funky basslines that move and twist and propel the mix, while techy, electro elements and vocal samples weave together on top to create a music that is full of energy and always moving forward.
