MIX : BASSANOVA [house mix - recorded 01/09]
No,
this mix is not musically anything like bossa nova, the Brazilian style
jazz popularized by João Gilberto and Antônio Carlos Jobim,
amoung others. But just like bossa nova, I hope it inspires dancing.
Bassanova is a mix of electro-tech-funk-house music. What?! I don't
think I can provide a description that accurately portrays the style.
A listen to the music will reveal all that needs to be known. All I
can say is that the key ingredients are heavy basslines that move and
twist, a touch of funk, and a generous amount of grit. Hope you like
it!

MIX : BASSANOVA BREAKS [breakbeat mix - recorded 07/09]
The
breaks companion to the electro-prog house mix listed below. This set
was inspired by a set I played live; a set that started during the day
and ended at night. This influenced the track selection in that the
second half is a bit harder and darker than the first half. As usual,
basslines and energy are the heart of the music.

FALL
2005 HOUSE DEMO [house mix - recorded 10/05]
Hmmm...creative
title, huh? Maybe it was a no-frills, tell-it-like-it-is, this-is-a-demo-mix
kind of day for me when I named the mix. Anyway, this one isn't quite
as electro-tech-funk as Bassanova. But it does have some strong basslines,
a bit of funk, and some electro elements. Have a listen. Enjoy.

ONE
TAKE SESSION : Winter 05 [breakbeat mix - recorded 01/05]
"One
take sessions" are DJ mixes recorded in one take with no planning
of any sort: no prior programming, no practicing mixes, no re-recording.
Essentially, they are live mixes recorded in the studio. The result
is a mix that reflects what I sound like when I play live, both in record
selection and mixing. That said, listen to Whiz-Bang! first (see below),
as I like it better.

WHIZ-BANG!
[breakbeat mix - recorded 5/04]
This mix
originally began it's existence as a live mix. I liked the records together
so much that I decided to put more work into the mixes and make it a
studio mix. (If your download is .mpa change it to .mp3 to get it to
play).

JHAEDA
BREAKS [breakbeat mix - recorded 10/03]
Jhaeda
Breaks is the second part of the Jhaeda mix set and includes some of
tracks that I still like. Some have some grity, brutal basslines, while
others spotlight more melodic elements.

JHAEDA
[house mix - recorded 08/03]
Jhaeda
was inspired by my trip to Barcelona and the records I bought when I
visited London during that same trip. It's more percussive and progressive
house, but includes plenty of the bass heavy, techy, progressive house
that is always in my mixes.
WONDERLAND
[house mix - recorded 10/02]
Wonderland
begins dark and brooding, then gradually adds more percussive elements,
stronger basslines, and more synth elements until ending hard and strong.
A vigorous mix of techy, percussive progressive house.
LIVE
AT QOOL [house mix - recorded 06/02]
Recorded
at the happening San Francisco hot spot happy hour party, hosted by
Spesh. This was an opening set, so it starts in a mild and gradually
builds through many textures and melodies and ends strong.
SPIVAK
[house mix - recorded 02/02]
My first
mix (when my DJ name was still Spivak). Wow. I've been at this DJ thing
for awhile. How time flies. This one started deep and moved gradually
into heavier tracks like Pappa & Gilbey's "Void," Fluke's
"Absurd," and Satoshi Tomiie's "Atari."
